Selecting Honey for Special Therapeutic Use

1. Look for the name UMF® and its level clearly displayed
on the front label. The name UMF® guarantees the honey     has high antibacterial activity.
2. Select a high UMF® rating. UMF®10 is the minimum. A
high UMF® rating ensures best results, especially for     interna uses.
3. For wound care select honey that has been thoroughly
filtered and sterilized by gamma radiation.
4. The honey must be packed in New Zealand and every
batch tested after packing. The term Product of NZ does     not  necessarily mean the honey has been packed in
    NZ.
5. Pay attention to the quality of the packing proceedures
used to ensure all the goodness and purity of the honey
    is retained

UMF® Manuka Honey / Active Manuka Honey - They are NOT the same.
The UMF® antibacterial property is not in most manuka honey, making that which has UMF® a unique and highly sought-after honey.
Originally manuka honey which had the UMF® antibacterial property was known as Active Manuka Honey (and is often referred to by this name in the research papers).
But, the name active is now being used by many to refer to either the peroxide antibacterial activity of honey or to honey with a very low UMF® activity, too low to be recommended for therapeutic use.

It is most necessary to look for the name UMF® on the front label.
The name UMF® guarantees the presence of this property at levels regarded as being most suitable for special therapeutic use.
